Pedagogies of Globalization, Joel Spring

Joel H. Spring, noted education researcher, authored Pedagogies of Globalization: The Rise of the Educational Security State. When he examined education in the United States, the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Republic of China, Japan, and other nations, he found many striking similarities and feedback loops involving prominent educators.

The subtitle suggests the motivation for this commonality: The Rise of the Educational Security State; that is, schools are designed as they are in order to promote the security of the apparatus of the State itself. The actualization of the potential of autonomous human beings is not the primary purpose; it might even be viewed as something of a toxic byproduct, from the POV of the architects.
